spring cleaning - it bytes!

by MJD-S
I've just made the change over from Entourage to Mail to deal with my emails and to my shock have discovered that there is way too much useless crap on this computer hoarding up it's memory. So i'm organizing it in bit-sized chunks of time between working like a mad woman. I've been delving into my myriad of folders - honestly I don't even know why half this crap is here. What interested me in keeping it? Most of it is the digital equivalent of bits of strings. I know why some of it migrated there. I loathe having files on my desk top. Actually I am so vocal about loathing files on desk tops that I have a couple of people who clean theirs up whenever they suspect I may have to look at their computer. Jackson-san my boss at the ACCJ even makes a point of showing me his desk top after he has cleaned it up. But I have realized that what I'm doing is basically sweeping it under the filing carpet. And the time has come to rid myself of these digi-dust kitties. One long forgotten folder I came across was "future blog pics". In here were a few edited pics of photos for tirades I had intended to unlease upon this blog at some point yet failed to do so. What pearls of wisdom/dribble were they collected to illustrate? Why hadn't I posted them at the time I edited them? Was I distracted before I could and then forgot about them? Was I feeling reluctant to tell a particular story? No idea. But I am amused by this pic of a friend of a friends dog I rediscovered.

  • MJ- can you share with us why you switch to mail.app from Entourage?

  • I am a PowerMail user myself..  mainly due to the inbuilt Sherlock search feature. Few things that are not great (HTML handling is not great but improving) but I find it is one of the better multilingual mail clients for Mac..

  • Well too many people I know have had the Entourage database death problem - because of the 4 gig limit and have been unable to retrieve any of their mails. Mail stores all the folders separately - I could live with one going but the whole lot is a bit scary.

Plus I don’t very rarely use any other of the Office products - so I’m weening myself off the one I used most, as I probably won’t buy Office 2004 for Mac.
